As you can guess this is an old book, you certainly can’t buy a cap for 50c and I have not seen a peddler! It was published in 1938. But it is certainly worth including in your children’s library.

“This easy-to-read story about a peddler and a band of mischievous monkeys is filled with warmth, humor, and simplicity.” Our children enjoy reading about the peddler’s efforts to outwit the monkeys who steal his caps while he sleeps. It has clever use of repetition and action in the story so appeals to both toddlers and those learning to read.

A board book is also available from Fishpond: This books will appeal to a wide variety of ages : the very young 2 years and up, will enjoy the moneys. Mum or Dad can provide actions to this lovely story!

I Spy Little Animals

A smaller board book version of the “I Spy” series, these are a wonderful way to introduce the delight of books to small children. My daughter, 18 months old, loves them. The beauty is that they will last at least a couple of years for the three year and four year old will enjoy them too. The photos are full of things to little ones to look at which can be named, things to find together.

The Giant Jam Sandwich is also available as a board book.
This is one of our all time favourite books and so it my first post:-)

The verse is delightful, the illustrations a sweet treat. The Giant Jam Sandwich is a great read for parents and children and that is why is works so well. I enjoy reading it aloud. Read Alouds should be enjoyable for parents and children, especially if it is book that is going to read aloud again and again. I have not tired of this book yet and I’m reading it to my eighth child.

Can you spot the 3 villagers in the pictures pursuing the wasps with nets through the book?
